“Today, Mayor Eric Adams appointed Edward Caban as the 46th Police Commissioner to lead the NYPD, our nation’s largest police department.
Commissioner Caban represents us and is a Bronx native and graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School. He began his law enforcement career in 1991 as a Police Officer in the 40th Precinct in the South Bronx and has dedicated 30 years to serving and protecting all New Yorkers. Today, in a full circle moment, Commissioner Caban returned to the 40th Precinct as our Police Commissioner.
This appointment represents a historic moment in our Borough and City. As the first Latino appointed to serve in this role in the history of the NYPD, Commissioner Caban is blazing the trail for other police officers and represents the diversity and experience necessary to lead the NYPD during these times.
On behalf of the Borough of the Bronx, we offer our warmest congratulations to one of our own, Commissioner Edward Caban. We look forward to working closely with him and the entire NYPD leadership team.”
