The Veteran Advisory Council (VAC) was established under the BP Carrion administration in response to the increasing need for veteran services after 9/11, recognizing that many veterans of this era have served multiple tours. The VAC collaborates with veteran service providers to ensure veterans’ needs are met and fosters partnerships with organizations such as the Bronx VA, Bronx Vet Center, Volunteers of America, Jericho Project, and HRA.

Over the years, the Council has developed a Veteran Resource Guide, hosted resource fairs, and sponsored events including the annual Veteran Appreciation Breakfast, the Bronx Zoo Holiday Celebration for Veterans and Active Military Members, and job fairs. Most recently, the Council successfully recommended that November be designated as Veteran Advisory Council Month, a proposal introduced at the Borough President’s request and approved by the NYC City Council.
