Responsibilities
• Assisting Communications Team with building relationships with reporters and pitching stories 
• Developing creative media and/or digital PR strategies to share information with the public
• Building and updating media lists and databases 
• Briefing Communications Team of current events and breaking news 
• Fielding and responding to incoming reporter inquiries, developing talking points, and tracking 
news trends 
• Drafting written press communications from the Office of the Bronx Borough President 
including press releases and media advisories
• Staffing the Bronx Borough President and/or Deputy Borough President at press events 
alongside senior staff 
• Composing citations and proclamations for community events 
• Preparing talking points and scripts for the Bronx Borough President and Deputy Borough 
President prior to media interviews and public appearances.
• Supporting all other Communications division or OBBP projects as needed

Qualifications
• Any major may apply, but students who wish to be considered should demonstrate an interest in 
Communications, Public Relations, Public Policy, Journalism, Media Relations, or a related field. 
• Ability to use initiative, prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Solid understanding of various social media platforms
• Efficiency at MS Office
• Passion for government, politics, and/or media

Interns will receive academic credit facilitated through their college/university/professional
development program as well as a robust experiential learning experience infused with personalized
professional development, opportunities for mentorship, leadership development and exposure to New 
York City government, institutions and community resources.
