On Saturday, August 26, 2017, Bronx President Ruben Diaz Jr. hosted his annual “Back to School” Literacy & Health Fair at the Pablo Casals Middle School 181 on the Co-op City Education Campus.
The event was co-sponsored by Montefiore, 92.3 AMP Radio, Healthfirst, with additional school supplies and backpacks donated by MetroPCS and FreshDirect. The event was also emceed by 92.3 AMP Radio personality and host Shoboy, and featured music, games and giveaways, as well as performances from the Ed Sullivan Fellows Program at New York University, Mind Builders and Rob and EC Salsero.
“Today is about celebrating youth, and the importance of education and fitness, as we begin the new academic year,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. “While I am sure that most students are disappointed summer vacation is coming to an end, there is always an energy and buzz in the air about starting a new grade, and our annual ‘Back to School’ Literacy & Health Fair harnesses that excitement in a way where we can all have fun prior to the launch of the new school year, while also providing ‘Not62’ health tips as well as school supplies that help our future leaders stay focused in their studies.”
