Bronx, NY – On Thursday, September 12th, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson joined the Honorable Josephe E. Capella, Administrative Judge for the Supreme Court of Bronx County, and emcee, Gary Axelbank, Host of Bronxnet’s Bronx Talk, and the Bronx Buzz, and Founder of the Bronx Music Podcast, to host the annual 9/11 Day of Remembrance ceremony at Lou Gehrig Plaza located on 161st Street between the Grand Concourse and Walton Avenue.
The two-hour tribute included the Presentation of Colors by the New York State Courts Pipes & Drums and the New York State Court Ceremonial Unit, Inter-faith prayers by Reverend Rhonda Coleman of the Clergy Council 49th Precinct; Rabbi Steven Exler of the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale, Imam Omar Niass of Masjid Ansaru-Deen Mosque, and Pastor Willie Hernandez of Activity Church, and special remarks from Borough President Gibson.
The recitation of all September 11th victims that were from the Bronx followed a performance by, “The Voices.” The program concluded with the 9/11 Tribute, “Halfway to Heaven,” sung by recording artist Sid Cherry, and written by Hank Fellows.
