“It has been ten years since the tragic murder of Eric Garner in Staten Island that ignited protests and calls for police reform across our city. Mr. Garner was a father, a son, and a friend to many. We honor his memory by continuing to advocate for police transparency and accountability so that another family never has to experience the heartbreaking pain and grief of losing a loved one to police violence.”

“I want to thank Mother Gwen Carr for turning her pain into purpose-driven reform that included the prohibition of chokeholds, the implementation of body-worn cameras, enhanced trainings at the Police academy, and other changes intended to keep our residents safe. We owe a debt of gratitude to Mother Gwen and the Garner family for spearheading these efforts and their incredible strength these past ten years fighting for police reform and discipline. Although Mr. Garner is no longer with us, we will remember his life by how he lived for his family and not the tragic way he left us.”
