(BRONX, NY) — On Saturday, May 11, Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson, in partnership with the NYPD Community Baby Shower, hosted her annual Bronx Week 2024 Health Day at the Northeast Bronx YMCA and brought additional resources on empowering women to make informed decisions about their health, understand their bodies, and navigate the healthcare system. Over 1,000 attendees were at the event.
The theme of this year’s event was “Empowering Women, is Empowering Health”. Borough President Gibson was joined by hospital partners, city agencies, community-based organizations, and health insurance providers for an exciting and fun-filled day with tabling, health screenings, life-saving skills development, civic engagement, Zumba, Family Boot Camp, music, bounce houses, and many giveaways. She also acknowledged the outstanding nominations received for the 2024 Healthcare People’s Choice Award. This year’s honorees were Cheikhou Ann, Community Health Worker, Institute for Family Health; Peter A. Sherman, MD, MPH, Vice President of Bronx Children’s Museum Board, Chair of Pediatrics, BronxCare Health System; Tynisha Malone, Director of Montefiore Project Bravo Food Pantry, Program Manager of BX HIV Prevention Program; Margarita Roldan, Social Worker, VNS Health; Anita Reyes, Assistant Commissioner of Health for the Bronx; and Anastasia Libovich, Midwife Practitioner, Urban Health Plan.
