RECOGNIZES BRONX FATHERS TAKING ACTION AT A BREAKFAST
Bronx, NY – On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson joined Bronx Fathers Taking Action outside C.S. 55, located at 450 St. Paul’s Place, to recognize Take Your Child to School Day across New York State. Launched in 2007, Dads Take Your Child to School Day, is always held at the beginning of the academic school year. The goal is to promote the involvement of fathers in the lives of their children, encourage and magnify male caregivers and provide opportunities for resource sharing.
The fatherhood engagement ceremony begins with fathers or father figures escorting their children to school. This is followed by an opportunity for them to meet the principal and hear about school policy, personnel, and procedures. The event also works to connect fathers to national and local organizations supporting fatherhood. In the Bronx, Fathers Taking Action works in partnership with the Bronx Borough President`s Office to provide support for fathers and activities for their families.
“Today, we want to celebrate our Bronx fathers who are often not recognized for their work in providing support, stability, and love for their children and families,” said Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson. “As important as it is for us to call out the parents who are not doing right by their children it is equally as important for us to praise the parents who are working tirelessly each and every day to ensure their children are cared for and receive a quality education. It is a tireless job being a parent that is made a little bit easier when caregivers can work in partnership with their children`s educators to ensure not only their students succeed but their communities also win. Thank you to Principal Luis Torres and Bronx Fathers Taking Action for their partnership on this event and for truly empowering and uplifting our fathers and their families in our borough.”
