“The 50th Anniversary of hip-hop is a celebration of the genre of hip-hop over five decades. From the culture, heritage, fashion, music, and style, it’s who we are as a borough. It is a global phenomenon influencing and inspiring people from around the world and although others try to claim it for themselves, it all started right here in the Bronx on 1520 Sedgwick Avenue. We are the birthplace of hip-hop and soon we will cement that fact in history with the first-ever Universal Hip-Hop Museum dedicated to this life-changing genre of music and culture. I want to thank all of our hip-hop legends, pioneers, and fans who made this anniversary possible. They set the tone and paved the way for hip-hop today. Happy Anniversary Hip-Hop!”
