Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that the State will stockpile the abortion medication Misoprostol as part of ongoing efforts to protect access to abortion. At the Governor’s direction, the New York State Department of Health will immediately begin purchasing Misoprostol in order to stockpile 150,000 doses, a five-year supply, in order to meet anticipated needs.

“I want to thank Governor Hochul for taking bold action to protect abortion access in our state. The recent decision by a judge in Texas to overturn the FDA’s long-standing approval of mifepristone is an affront to common sense and the rights of women across our nation. This decision marks a new front in anti-abortion activists’ calculated assault on a woman’s right to control their own bodies and make their own choices. But even as conservative judges and lawmakers across the country are actively trying to undo years of progress in the fight for reproductive justice, the Bronx, New York City, and New York State will always support a woman`s right to bodily autonomy.”
