“The food industry is one of the most significant economic engines in our borough, and this strike is not just impacting the Tri-State area, it will have a ripple effect across the East Coast.

“It is disheartening to hear that our Hunts Point Produce Market workers and management could not come to an agreement during their negotiations.

“These last 10 months have been challenging for all of us. When New York was on PAUSE, it was these essential employees that came to work day-in and day-out to keep our nation’s food-supply chain uninterrupted and ensuring we had access to fresh produce, even in these trying times.

“In good faith, I hope both parties will do the right thing and come back to the negotiating table immediately and reach the agreement that these essential workers deserve,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
