On Tuesday, May 21, 2019, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and the Dominican Day Parade, Inc. co-hosted the “Dominican Day Parade Reception,” in collaboration with Congress Member Adriano Espaillat, Council Member Fernando Cabrera and Assembly Members Victor M. Pichardo and Karines Reyes.

The event honored the 2019 Dominican Day Parade leadership and individuals who have contributed to the growth and promotion of the nation’s community and culture.

“With over 700,000 individuals of Dominican heritage living in New York City and more than 15 percent of that number calling this great borough their home, it is a proud moment to recognize the growing population and share their flavorful culture. With their growing businesses and exciting cultural celebrations, the history of this great community is being written each day in our borough,” said Borough President Diaz. “I am honored to host this event today and celebrate the contributions of the Dominican and Dominican-American community to our borough and our city.”

This year included special recognition by the Dominican Day Parade to ‘Adopted Dominican’ Konstantinos “Gus” Tyras. The reception took place at The Bronx County Building, Veterans’ Memorial Hall and featured Dominican food and entertainment by Ramona Torres Grupo Folklorico, Dominican Dance Group.
