On Thursday, July 20, 2017, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and student volunteers participating in the Bronx Youth Corps came together to beautify Latinos Unidos Community Garden in Melrose. Activities included painting a mural, building garden boxes and planting new trees at the site.
The Bronx Youth Corps is a youth service program that integrates community service with classroom instruction and reflection to enhance student learning. Through the Bronx Youth Corps, the students will learn to work as a group, learn about the importance of taking responsibility for their community, and gain the skills to make positive changes in The Bronx and become future leaders.
Thursday’s event was made possible thanks to partnerships with DreamYard, the Blackstone Group and Nos Quedamos.
