On Thursday, June 1, 2017, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., hosted the borough’s seventh annual LGBTQ & Allies Pride Awards Ceremony.

“It was a true honor to kickoff LGBTQ Pride Month, right here in The Bronx,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. “This wonderful event offered my borough an opportunity to recognize several incredible individuals for the work they have done to strengthen the LGBTQ community and to help that community build allies across the city.”

Dr. Marjorie J. Hill, CEO of the Joseph Addabbo Family Health Center, was awarded the 2017 John Wade Award, which honors LGBTQ individuals for excellence in government service.

This year’s honorees also included legendary performer Dominique (Tyra A. Ross) Jackson, Renee Reopell, Director of the Adolescent AIDS Program at Montefiore; and Raul Rivera, a community organizer with Spaceworks.

The event, which was co-hosted by City Council Members Ritchie Torres and James Vacca, was made possible by the generous sponsorship of an array of community organizations, with AIDS Healthcare Foundation serving as the Grand Sponsor, and Adolescent AIDS Program at Montefiore and Union Community Health Center as Gold Sponsors.

During the event, Borough president Diaz also noted that his office will conduct a LGBTQ needs assessment survey for The Bronx throughout June, as part of the office’s efforts to celebrate Pride Month.
