On Monday, February 9, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. visited Mott Haven Community High School to discuss civic engagement and current affairs with students at the school.
Mott Haven Community High School, located at 455 Southern Boulevard in the Gompers Campus is in its third year of operations and offers a second chance for older students, providing advisors, mentors and individual attention to help ensure they graduate.
The students asked Bronx Borough President Diaz a variety of questions about local government as well as discussed the importance of being an active participant in not only the community but also the electoral process.
“Many teens and young adults feel that they are ignored or have no voice in what happens in their community. As someone who has been active in government from a very young age, I understand the importance of getting involved in the electoral process early in life. I wanted to let these students know that it is never too early to make a difference, whether it is joining one of the community boards or becoming a first time voter,” said Borough President Diaz.
