“I am glad that the City Council has passed this package of legislation, and that Mayor Bill de Blasio has signed them into law. These new laws provide our city with a fair, compassionate immigration policy that does not take the most drastic measures to deal with undocumented immigrants in our city. I congratulate Mayor de Blasio and City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito for their advocacy on this issue.
“I am deeply appreciative that our city is leading the way on developing an immigration policy that respects the law and the rights of those individuals and families that are helping our city grow and prosper. This is especially welcome at a time when our federal immigration policy has been so dysfunctional,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
