  • Statement from Borough President Diaz RE: President Obama’s Decision to Stop Deportation of DREAMers, Extend Work Permits

“I am so happy and applaud President Obama’s decision to stop the deportation of DREAMers and extend work permits to our hard working youth. In the Bronx alone, we have roughly half a million foreign born individuals from across the globe. They are New York’s brightest, many of whom are the friends of our children who have been raised and educated in our schools, our churches, and our neighborhoods.

“While President Obama’s decision today will help towards fulfilling the promise of the American Dream, we must keep fighting for comprehensive immigration reform including the DREAM Act at a federal level and for immigrants’ rights issues at a local and state level. These students deserve the chance to get a good education, and help grow our economy,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
