COBA President Norman Seabrook to Host ‘The Bronx Push 4 Peace’ Festival

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., New York City Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association President Norman Seabrook, and the Hot 97 “Street Soldiers” team have announced that they will co-host the first ever “The Bronx Push 4 Peace” festival.

The event will take place on Saturday, April 28th , from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hostos Arts Center at Hostos Community College, 500 Grand Concourse, Bronx, NY. The day’s program will be hosted by Fox 5 News reporter and Hot 97 “Street Soldiers” host Lisa Evers, and will focus on offering our youth empowerment and alternatives to street violence, giving them the opportunity to make positive connections with our prominent community leaders.

“This event will not only offer great music and entertainment but also guidance to so many of our young adults who day by day are faced with tough decisions. The purpose of this event is to reinforce them that there are adults in their communities who care and will stand by them and help steer them away from street violence,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

"Our HOT 97 ‘Street Soldiers’ listeners are always asking us for ways to move towards safe, productive lives and away from the random gun violence and negativity of the streets. Our Push 4 Peace Show and Festival is a fun way to give them a voice and let them know they’re not alone. There’s support available if they want it,” said Lisa Evers.

“Gun violence is an epidemic that continues to plague our streets,” said COBA President Norman Seabrook. “While politicians debate the merits of the NYPD’s stop and frisk program, our brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, mothers, and fathers are getting shot in front of our very eyes. I will not sit by and watch another member of New York’s Boldest or any other New Yorker become yet another fatal statistic.  I’m proud to partner with Hot 97’s Lisa Evers and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. as together, the Bronx pushes for peace!” said Norman Seabrook, president of the Correction Officers Benevolent Association.

The event will feature a diverse interactive discussion panel with a focus on how to help our youth get beyond the violence and negativity that destroys many lives in our neighborhoods each day. Celebrity guests, including hip-hop artists and star athletes, will also attend. The event will also feature live music from Hot 97 DJs, a wide range of activities, including an open mic competition and a fair, with various community organizations offering information on “gun buyback” programs, free GED classes, fatherhood programs, neighborhood anti-violence groups information, as well as education and job training opportunities. The event will also feature giveaways, prizes and refreshments, and will be free to the public.

The town hall discussion panel will air the following morning on Hot 97.1 FM in New York City and the tri-state area. The show will also stream live on
