Restaurants to Serve Up Special Deals November 1 – 13, 2011

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., in conjunction with the New York State Restaurant Association, will present Savor The Bronx!, the borough’s first restaurant week from Tuesday, November 1 to Sunday, November 13th.

The event, produced by the Bronx Tourism Council and co-hosted by the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (BOEDC) and the Bronx Chamber of Commerce, will showcase the borough’s best eateries.  They’ll offer special values and discounts like prix fixe 3-course meals, complimentary coffee and dessert, or 20% off the check.

For visitors and residents who appreciate good food, Savor The Bronx! is an unprecedented opportunity  to taste test the worldwide cuisine the Bronx offers.   Foodies can experience delicious dishes from the Americas, the Caribbean, Asia, Central America, Europe and Africa, all of which are available in the Bronx.

“I invite everyone to visit and Savor the Bronx,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. “Our inaugural ’Savor the Bronx!’ restaurant week event is the ideal time to try a new restaurant or return to a favorite.  Enjoy authentic Italian food on Arthur Avenue or some fresh seafood on City Island, or just take a look at the ‘Savor the Bronx!’ website for participating restaurants and make your own great choice.  The Bronx is your oyster!”

“The New York State Restaurant Association is proud to partner with the Bronx Borough President, Ruben Diaz Jr., to launch ’Savor the Bronx!,’ the first official Bronx restaurant week,” said Andrew Rigie, New York City Executive Vice President at the New York State Restaurant Association.  “This is an amazing opportunity for local Bronx restaurants to showcase their cuisine and hospitality.  This is sure to offer a boost in business, while affording locals and out-of-towners the perfect opportunity to taste all the flavors that Bronx restaurants have to offer. ‘Savor the Bronx!’ is a win-win for the community and local restaurant owners alike.”

Tourists are drawn to borough restaurants as a way of experiencing the Bronx’s cultural diversity, according to the Bronx Tourism Council.

“There are new restaurants opening in the Bronx, and classic ones are going strong, so it’s no wonder that eating guides like Zagat and Michelin are recognizing more of them every year,” said Doris Quinones, Executive Director of the Bronx Tourism Council.  “For visitors and native New Yorkers, our ‘Savor The Bronx!’ restaurant week event is the perfect time to go on a culinary adventure the whole family can enjoy.”

Taste-tempting offers include 20% off the lunch tab at the Riverdale Steak House and Lucca Restaurant in Pelham Bay; complimentary dessert and coffee at the Rambling House in Woodlawn and NYY Steak near Yankee Stadium; and lunch and dinner specials at Bronx Ale House in Kingsbridge, the Tosca Café in Throggs Neck, and the Ice House Café in Ft. Schuyler.
