RE: PEP vote on Verizon contract
“My representative to the Panel for Educational Policy voted against this contract due to concerns regarding the allegations that were raised in Special Commissioner Richard Condon’s report; specifically, that a lack of internal controls and Verizon’s own conflicts of interest played a role in perpetuating fraud in regards to ‘Project Connect.’ It is inappropriate to reward Verizon with a new contract when there is evidence that they placed their own needs above providing the best possible service to their client, in this case the City of New York and millions of public school children,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
