Statement From Borough President Diaz Re: Living Wage Mandate for Home Health Care Workers
Statement From Borough President Diaz
Re: Living Wage Mandate for Home Health Care Workers
“I want to commend Governor Andrew Cuomo and the State Legislature for understanding the importance of a ‘living wage’ and passing a new regulation, as part of this budget, that requires home health care workers in New York City to receive a ‘living wage’ for their work. As we work to make the passage of the ‘Fair Wages for New Yorkers’ Act a reality, I hope that our City’s leaders will follow the example of the State and do what is right for the workers of the five boroughs,” said Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
The “Fair Wages for New Yorkers” Act, which was introduced into the City Council at the behest of Borough President Diaz, would require developers that receive heavy taxpayer subsidies to pay their employees a “living wage.” The bill currently has 29 City Council co-sponsors.
