“After months of pressure by elected officials and community groups, I am happy to see that the Postal Regulatory Commission has lowered the number of potential Bronx post offices slated for closure from seven to just three. While this is good news for many, we must continue to fight to ensure that these three post offices remain open, as their closure could have a devastating effect on the communities they are located in,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
The Postal Regulatory Commission announced on Friday that it had removed four Bronx postal branches—Botanical, Clason Point, Hillside and Melcourt—from a list of seven Bronx post offices under consideration to be closed. Three post office branches in the Bronx—Crotona Park, Van nest and Oak Point—are still in danger of closure.
