On Thursday, September 17, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. welcomed to his office the Secretary of State for Environment and Natural Resources of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Jaime David Fernandez, and the Consul General of the Dominican Republic in New York, Rafael Evans, among other representatives, to discuss environment and green strategies.
Borough President Diaz and the Dominican delegation visited the Bronx County Courthouse Green Roof, the first of its kind in the Bronx and the second one in a city-owned building, and later went to the New York Botanical Garden, where they planted a tree to highlight the importance of reforestation.
“Dr. Fernandez has instituted a number of green initiatives in the Dominican Republic. He fully understands that if we don’t protect our planet earth, the future of our kids is in jeopardy,” said Borough President Diaz. “This tree we are planting today symbolizes the continuation of our cooperation with other communities, with other countries, as a way to learn from their experiences and to bring benefits to our residents in The Bronx.”
