“When I served in the New York State Assembly, I authored legislation that would have recognized Eid Ul-Fitr and Eid Ul-Adha, the two holiest days on the Muslim calendar, as official school holidays. The passage of today’s City Council resolution sends a strong message that the growing Muslim segment of our City can no longer go unnoticed. I applaud the City Council for taking a symbolic step for equality and fairness to all religions, and I hope the State Legislature will follow their lead in the near future,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
