“Today is a bittersweet moment as we commemorate 50 years since the Roe v. Wade ruling but also only seven months ago, that decision was upended by a conservative majority in the Supreme Court determined to deny women autonomy over their bodies. It was a moment that pained us all and sent shockwaves across our nation. Our parents and grandparents fought for our constitutional right to abortion access, for it then to be taken away in the blink of an eye. But this anniversary reminds us that despite that loss, our fight for reproductive justice is far from over. New York City and New York State have made significant progress in protecting abortion access under the leadership of Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Eric Adams, and the first female majority in the New York City Council led by Speaker Adrienne Adams. While other states are limiting abortion access, we are committed now more than ever to ensuring that right is protected and that providers are supported.”
