Bronx, NY- Dozens of organization leaders, Bronx representatives and residents joined BronxNet Chairman Paul T. Gentile, Bronx Borough President Ruben Díaz Jr, Mercy College President Tim Hall on October 5th, for a ribbon cutting ceremony to launch a new state-of-the-art BronxNet television studio facility at Mercy College at the Hutch Metro Center.
Located in the East Bronx at Mercy College at the Hutch Metro Center, the facility is complete with a state-of-the-art control room, an express studio, media labs and other media capable spaces. The opening of the facility is especially good news for East Bronx residents who will no longer navigate crosstown traffic to access a wide range of media services including: Hands-on production training, and access to cameras, editing systems and studio equipment for producing independent programs. Students of Mercy College and other educational institutions will now have the opportunity to develop real-world media skills in the East Bronx as so many have done over the years at BronxNet’s facilities at Lehman College. The facility will also serve as a hub where Mercy College educators can share information and ideas with TV and web-viewing audiences through BronxNet signature and Mercy College-generated programs.
“The new Bronxnet studio at Mercy College is answering the call of the community to have a facility and network where their views and voices are seen and heard. Students and residents of the East Bronx will have access to technology and media production training where they themselves can produce shows and programs for the general community while targeting a specific group. Some of today’s professional journalists represent The Bronx in the mainstream media got their start at Bronxnet. It is truly a proud moment to be here for the ribbon cutting ceremony,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
“The new BronxNet satellite facility at Mercy College at the Hutch Metro Center is the borough’s windows on the East Bronx. Activities at the location will help prepare future media leaders, encourage innovation and spur more community building, through workforce development, media technology and unique programming,” said BronxNet Executive Director Michael Max Knobbe.
“We are so pleased to be officially cutting the ribbon on the new Mercy College BronxNet Studios,” Mercy College President Timothy Hall stated. “We have long had a wonderful relationship with BronxNet and now I can’t wait to see it flourish even more. From the opportunities for our students to work and learn in a real television studio, to the opportunities for our staff and faculty to share the great things they are working on here at Mercy College – I expect great things. I will be tuning in!”
BronxNet is the independent not-for-profit organization serving the people of the Bronx through the provision of media production training, access to technology, and cable television channels. BronxNet programs six channels – 33, 34, 35, 36, 37 and 38 on the Verizon FiOs system and four channels – 67, 68, 69 and 70 – on the cablevision system in the Bronx.
