BP Diaz Hosts African Advisory Council Meeting
On Thursday, February 5, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. hosted the first meeting of his office’s African Advisory Council of 2015.
The agenda included a dialogue with African community groups and their respective leaders sharing their priorities for the upcoming year, while also discussing possible collaboration opportunities on a variety of issues.
“This council was created to serve the needs of the growing African community in The Bronx, and it plays a very important function in addressing the issues and concerns of this growing population,” said Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. “It makes me proud to know that this council is able to both handle business here at home in The Bronx while also helping to develop a larger agenda for the entire city.”
Also discussed were possible collaborations with borough education institutions, the annual African Nations Soccer Tournament during Bronx Week, and organizing platforms that provide access to resources and networking opportunities for the borough’s African community.
