Release: 7/23/04 BRONX BOROUGH PRESIDENT CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING OF Center expected to generate over 350 new jobs for the Bronx Bronx , NY - Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion , BO ED C and the Mid-Bronx Desperadoes Community Housing Corporation celebrated the long awaited opening of the New Horizons Mall. Carrión – who recently unveiled The Bronx At Work initiative, an aggressive campaign to boost the Bronx economy said “It’s great to welcome more new businesses and jobs to the Bronx . This new shopping center will have over 134,000 sq. ft. square feet of retail space. Located in the Crotona Park East section of Community District 3 the shopping center will play a major role in the ongoing redevelopment of the Bronx . It will be a catalyst for revitalizing the area and will provide much needed retail services and job opportunities for Bronxites. The shopping center will be anchored by a full service 49,000 square foot Pathmark supermarket with pharmacy , which will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, plus 21 satellite stores. The $30.7 million development cost was financed by Citibank and LISC. New Horizons Mall is expected to generate 150 construction jobs and over 200 full and part time permanent jobs. Other tenants include Washington Mutual Bank, Radio Shack, Petland, Foot Locker, Popeye’s, Subway, GNC, H&R Block and Rockaway Bedding. "The opening of Crotona Park Pathmark in the New Horizons Shopping Center is an occasion which has been long-awaited by many,” pointed out Eileen Scott, CEO of Pathmark. “We are thankful to all who persevered in the effort to bring this project to fruition. This is a great day not only for Pathmark and its partners in this project, but especially for the people in the community who will now have a first class supermarket and shopping center to satisfy all their needs.” |
