Statement by Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr, regarding the number of New York City Police Officers who are leaving the Department for higher paying jobs in other jurisdictions

  

“We should be extremely concerned about the exodus of police officers from our city.  We undeniably have the best trained police department in the world; unfortunately we do not have the highest paid police department in the world.  We cannot expect to keep these brave men and women if we are not paying them a competitive salary.  Investing in public safety is not just about investing in equipment and training, it is also about investing in the men and women who protect our city. We now have a budget surplus, and our priority must be keeping our Finest in the greatest police department in the world.”
