BOROUGH PRESIDENT ADDRESSES HUNTS POINT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

OFFERS UPDATE ON HIS PLANS FOR HUNTS POINT IN 2007

Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr was the keynote speaker at The Hunts Point Chamber of Commerce annual start of the year breakfast. Carrion spoke about the various new developments and business opportunities throughout the peninsula and offered his vision for the area in the coming years. Carrion called for a total revamping of the Hunt Point Terminal Produce Market and promoted the new Bronx Empire Zone Non-Profit zero-interest Loan Fund (NPLF). This “bridge loan fund” program would provide non-profits with much needed loans to start development enhancements projects throughout not only the Hunts Point area but the entire South Bronx. Carrion also spoke about the increase in employment and businesses through the peninsula.

“We have over 25,000 people working for over 800 businesses in this area. This area is concrete proof of the economic boom the Bronx is experiencing,” stated Carrion. “We are proving that the best social program is a job”.
