BRONX BOROUGH PRESIDENT HEADED THE BEAUTIFICATION CAMPAIGN “TEAM UP TO CLEAN UP”

Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrión joined dozens of residents during the 5th Campaign “Team Up to Clean up the Bronx”, a year-round community beautification initiative that took place all over the borough on May 3.

This year the campaign recognized the work of Bolívar Díaz, a Kingsbridge Heights resident who created a community group called the “Dream Team” which every Sunday gets together to cleanup a local step street located at Summit Place, between Heath and Bailey Avenue.

“The Bronx is without a doubt a great place to live thanks to the cooperation of our residents, who understood that keeping the streets free of trash and graffiti is a big part of the equation to build a better borough,” said Adolfo Carrión. “The Team Up to Clean Up campaign is a reminder that the beautification and the improvement of the Bronx are in everybody’s hands”.

The cleanup campaign targeted some of the quality of life issues affecting the Bronx, such as littering, illegal dumping, graffiti, and rodent infestation.  Bronx civic groups, community associations, community boards, clergy, business and academic leaders, governmental agencies, and elected officials lead the clean-up activities in neighborhoods across the borough, together with hundreds of Bronxites who formed part of the activity.  Some of the organizations that participated in this clean-up program were:

Bronx Borough President’s Veteran Advisory Council, SEBCO, Greening For Breathing, 1560 Grand Concourse Tenant Association, Sheridan Cares, Troop and Pack 904 Boy Scouts of American, the Neighborhood Integrity Center, Garifuna Coalition USA, Inc., The 87 Happy Land Committee Family, Phoenix House-185th Street Short Term Program, Friends of Van Cortlandt Park, Riverdale Community Association, Kingsbridge Heights Community Center / Dream Team for a Clean Neighborhood, Waterfront Garden, PSS City Island Senior Program, Sharon Seventh Day Adventist Church, Olinville Taxpayers & Civic Association, Local 79 Laborers, Hutchinson River Restoration Project, Popham Gardens Homeowners Association.

This was the 5th year that Bronxites got together to beautify their neighborhoods.  Since its inception, over a thousand of Bronx’s residents have played a part in helping to keep the borough clean and improve the quality of life.
