BRONX BOROUGH PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES THE PUBLICATION OF A CITIZENSHIP AND NATURALIZATION GUIDE TO HELP THE IMMIGRANT COMMUNITY
The guide is available in English and Spanish and provides information about the naturalization process, a list of community services, and contact information for government and elected officials that can provide assistance.
New York City – The Bronx Borough President’s Office releases a new Citizenship and Naturalization Guide to help residents become naturalized citizens of the United States.
The Bronx Borough President’s Citizenship and Naturalization Guide provides information about the naturalization process for permanent residents, a list of community resources such as free English Language courses and immigration counseling, and contact information for government and elected officials that can provide assistance.“I hope this guide will be a useful resource to help you on your journey to fulfill your dream of becoming a citizen of the United States”, said Bronx Borough President, Adolfo Carrión.
The Citizenship and Naturalization Guide was created in response to the growing difficulty documented permanent residents have obtaining citizenship due to increased fees, screenings, processing times and red tape at the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS).
According to the Department of City Planning, over 630,000 new immigrants came to New York City between 2000 and 2006 and over 85,000 immigrants came to the Bronx during that time. Currently over 1/3 of the city’s population is foreign born.
“Helping immigrants become citizens strengthens our democracy and economy”, said Carrión. “Immigrants bring new vitality to our economy and has helped the population of New York City continue to grow and prosper.”
