CARRION CELEBRATED THE LEGACY OF REVEREND DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrión, Jr. brought together City and state dignitaries to honor the legacy and memory of the great civil rights leader, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at an interfaith service at Trinity Baptist Church.

This year’s theme was, “Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day On, Not a Day Off”.

“ Martin Luther King represents the best of our dreams, the best of our aspirations and while we celebrate his legacy, outside of the historical facts that he was a great preacher, a great teacher and great leader, we need to translate all we learn into action”, Carrión said. “Instead of just talk about it, we need to do something about it, and I think the principal responsibility of every American is to ensure the education of the next generation.”

Among the elected officials attending the ceremony were Senator Charles Schumer, State Comptroller Thomas Di Napoli, Assemblyman and County Leader José Rivera, Assembly members Rubén Díaz Jr. and Carl Heastie, Council members Joel Rivera, John Liu and Tom White.  Community leaders and clergy representing various religious groups also joined Carrión and the people of the Bronx in the celebration.
