CARRRION JOINS HISTORIC ALLIANCE TO LAUNCH THE
“YA ES HORA”
U.S. CITIZENSHIP CAMPAIGN IN TRI-STATE AREA
With fee hike imminent, community stakeholders launch unprecedented effort to encourage eligible legal permanent residents to apply for U.S. citizenship.
New York, NY – Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion will join with dozens of community organizations and stakeholders to launch the Ya es hora ¡Ciudadania! (It Is Time – Citizenship!) campaign, an unprecedented effort to inform, educate, and motivate eligible legal permanent residents who reside in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut to apply for U.S. citizenship.
Carrion was recently elected to the Presidency of the National Association of Latino Elected Officials (NALEO), which is helping spearhead this campaign.
The campaign is setting out to help naturalize thousands of eligible legal permanent residents. The launch of this effort is particularly timely beacuase naturalization fees are set to increase by almost 70%, from $400 to $675, on July 30th.
Applicants may call the NALEO Educational Fund citizenship assistance and voter education hotline at (888) Ve-Y-Vota (839-8682) or visit www.yaeshora.info to receive more information about naturalization requirements and how and where to apply for U.S. citizenship.
