as part of his housing series

Over 1,000 Potential Homebuyers Attend Bronx Housing Fair

Bronx, NY- Borough President Adolfo Carrion, Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (BOEDC), Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS), Freddie Mac and other housing non-profits organizations hosted the Second Annual “Bronx at Work” Homebuyers Fair.”

The 3nd annual fair – which was free to the public, brought together the largest collection of financial institutions, realtors and non-profits under one roof.   Experts educated consumers on the home-buying process, including how to qualify for a mortgage, how to refinance a home and repair credit problems, where to find affordable housing and how to facilitate down payment and closing cost assistance.  The Homebuyers Fair is part of the Borough President’s “Bronx At Work Housing Series,” designed to increase exposure to homeownership opportunities for first-time homebuyers in the Bronx, and show them why buying in the Bronx is a solid investment.

“Housing is a major issue for almost every one in New York, and I am proud to say that the Bronx is leading the way in providing housing opportunities for people of all incomes in our borough.  Affordable housing is vital to the economic revitalization of the City which is why it has been a cornerstone issue of my administration.  Homeownership provides stability, rebuilds neighborhoods and will further strengthen the economy and quality of life for the entire city,” said Carrion.

Previous events of The Bronx at Work Housing Series included the Homebuyer Education Initiative, which presented the basics of the home buying process to potential first-time homebuyers, providing them with information in areas such as down payment and closing cost assistance, finding the right mortgage lender and how to maintain a home.  Qualified participants were then directed to a local not-for-profit for financial literacy or homebuyer education training.  Freddie Mac and Washington Mutual provided financial support to assist local not-for-profits in monitoring participants’ progress.
