Currently the Office of the Bronx Borough President is interviewing Candidates to fill its vacancy on the Panel for Educational Policy.
The Panel for Educational Policy is a part of the governance structure responsible for the City School District of the City of New York, subject to the laws of the State of New York and the regulations of the State Department of Education.
The Mayor appoints eight of the members of the Panel for Educational Policy, including the Chancellor. Five other members are appointed by the borough presidents and must be parents of children in the New York City public schools.
The panel’s responsibilities include approving standards, policies, objectives, and regulations that are directly related to educational achievement and student performance, as well as certain contracts, an estimated annual operating budget, and the Department of Education’s (DOE) capital plan.
This position is a volunteer position that is unpaid.
The panel holds a public meeting every month, which always includes a public comment segment. Every parent can attend the monthly meetings to learn about DOE policies and express their opinion to the Chancellor and the other members of the panel.

Currently the Office of the Bronx Borough President is interviewing Candidates to fill its vacancy on Community Education Council District 10

There are 32 Community Education Councils (CECs) in New York City. Each CEC oversees a Community School District that includes public elementary, intermediate, and junior high schools.  Each CEC has 12 members, including nine parents selected by the district's parent/parent- teacher associations,  two members appointed by the Borough President, and one student member selected by the Community Superintendent.
CECs hold monthly public meetings, and contribute to shaping educational policy in their districts.  While different CECs may have different priorities, they share the same set of responsibilities established by state law and implemented through regulations of the Chancellor. These responsibilities include: approving school zoning lines, holding hearings on the capital plan, evaluating community superintendents, and providing input on other important policy issues.
Two voting members are appointed by the borough president corresponding to such district. Such appointees shall be residents of, or own or operate a business in, the district and shall  be  individuals with  extensive  business, trade, or education experience and knowledge, who will make a significant contribution to improving education  in  the district.  Such members shall serve for a term of two years and may only be reappointed for one additional two year term.
