OFFICE OF THE BRONX BOROUGH PRESIDENT
Position: Director of the Bronx Borough President’s Office of Health and Human Services

JOB DESCRIPTION:

TThe Office of the Bronx Borough President is seeking a motivated high-level candidate to serve as Director of Health and Human Services in the Executive Office.

Under Executive supervision, on behalf of the Bronx Borough President, the selected candidate will serve as the Borough President’s confidential advisor for health and human services policy by:

  • Assessing the health and human services needs of the borough and developing effective strategies to address disparities and deficits in these areas.
  • Developing and strengthening strategic relationships within both the borough and citywide health and human services infrastructures that will lead to coalition and consensus building to resolve issues of common concern.
  • Liaising with the appropriate City, State and federal agencies to develop a deep understanding of the local impacts of their policies and to advocate for policies that are advantageous to the Bronx.
  • Developing position papers and briefing memos for the Borough President to inform him about pertinent issues and areas of concern where he can take action.
  • Providing information about governmental resources available to the community.
  • Participating in the planning, organization and implementation of programs and events involving the delivery of government delivered services.
  • Representing the Borough President at events and other community-based meetings as needed. 
  • Maintaining lists of government agency contacts.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Candidate should:

  • Possess an understanding of the government health and human services infrastructure and related issues.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, oral and written skills.
  • Be able to work cooperatively and effectively with different groups and enjoy working with people.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage complex tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Be computer literate.

QUALIFICATION  REQUIREMENTS:

    1. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of professional full time progressively responsible experience in health or human services;  or direct experience in a government agency or community organization engaged in providing health and human services to the public; eighteen months of which must have been in an executive, managerial or administrative capacity.
    2. Education and/or experience equivalent to (1.) above.  Education may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 graduate credits from an accredited college in public heath, public administration, or a related field, may be substituted for one year of non-managerial experience up to a maximum of 60 graduate credits.  However, all candidates must have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree and 18 months of managerial experience.

    Salary: commensurate with experience.
