OFFICE OF THE BRONX BOROUGH PRESIDENT
Position: General Counsel to the Borough President
The duties and responsibilities of the General Counsel to the Bronx Borough President’s office are, but are not limited to, as follows:
Provides legal counsel to the Bronx Borough President and the Office of the Bronx Borough President; institutes legal proceedings on behalf of the Borough President’s Office in matters not within the jurisdiction of the Corporation Counsel’s Office; acts as a liaison with the Corporation Counsel’s Office; represents the Bronx Borough President at the New York City Employees Retirement System’s Board of Trustees and Investment meetings; advises the Bronx Borough President and the executive staff re: policy issues; must have the ability to review and formulate position papers with respect to policy issues; performs legal research on issues pertinent to the Borough President, the executive staff and the office of the Borough President; confers with other departments, boards, agencies, and individuals, and conducts negotiations on matters of interest and concern to the Office of the Borough President; participates in conferences with intra-departmental and inter-departmental executives and officials and State and Federal representatives and submits confidential reports or opinions in matters of a legal nature; drafts policy and procedures for the office of the Borough President; advises on issues pertaining to the New York City Conflicts of Interest rules; reviews, negotiates and drafts agreements and memoranda of understanding; must be familiar with NYC procurement rules and procurement process; reviews legislation pertaining to the office; advises in the formation of a not-for-profit corporation; have experience or knowledge of employment laws, e.g. anti-discrimination laws; have knowledge of civil service laws; and represents the Borough President at various legal and community events.
Qualifications: a JD from an accredited law school, minimum of 8 years legal experience, public interest/government experience helpful. Strong legal writing and research skills. Ability to work with constituents and community groups. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Salary: commensurate with experience.
Must be a NYC resident within 90 days of appointment.
