On Sunday, November 24, 2019, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and AT&T’s Director of New York City and Westchester External Affairs Robin White co-hosted a celebration for the youth baseball teams who participated in this year’s ninth annual “Borough President’s Cup” youth baseball tournament – Grand Slam Little League and Bronxchester Realtors.

The celebration took place at Tosca Marquee in Throggs Neck and included players, their families and their coaches. This year’s game, which was hosted by the New York Yankees in Yankee Stadium, ended in a tie due to time constraints. Therefore, both teams were awarded first place trophies.

To compete for the Borough President’s Cup, players on each Little League team had to meet a set of requirements unrelated to their performance on the field, including a B-average in school, 90 percent or greater school attendance and a demonstrated commitment to community service.

“These two teams represent what our tournament is all about, placing as much value and emphasis on maintaining good grades as well as community engagement and volunteerism as much as they cared about taking home the championship trophy,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. “I am proud to host this event each year and I am grateful for the support that people like Robin White and AT&T have provided to the Borough President’s Cup yourh baseball tournament since its inception.”

“Congratulations to both Grand Slam Little League and Bronxchester Realtors for leaving it all on the field this year,” said Amy Kramer, President, New York State, AT&T. “AT&T is proud to support the Borough President’s Cup each year, and we look forward to collaborating with Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. on even more initiatives to improve the lives of young people in The Bronx.”

During the event, AT&T and the borough president presented each team with $2,500 in gift cards to Modell’s Sporting Goods to help pay for equipment for the upcoming youth baseball season.
