Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. has allocated more than $2.4 million in capital funds for six community facilities across The Bronx.

These capital improvements help with the renovation of youth facilities that provide safe havens for our most vulnerable communities, while also enhancing and improving access to resources for those who need it the most.

Among the projects that will receive funds are the completion of repairs to the swimming pool area at BronxWorks, a green roof and solar panels for Rocking the Boat and new refrigerated delivery vans for God’s Love We Deliver, which helps provide nutritious meals for those living with life-altering illnesses.

“These investments allow for us to continue to build on the successes we have had since I became borough president,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. “We want to make sure Bronxites who need our help are getting the services they need, whether that means providing meals for those who cannot leave their homes, providing facilities where our children can exercise their minds and bodies, and providing space for afterschool activities, among other important services.”

This year’s capital allocations will fund a total of $2.45 million in improvements to community facilities and services. Since 2009, Borough President Diaz has invested over $15 million over 32 projects to help build or renovate community facilities across The Bronx.

“I’m proud to fund these projects that help uplift our community, strengthening core values of helping one another within our community,” said Borough President Diaz “These will be amazing enhancements to our amenities in The Bronx, and I’m proud to have been able to help make these projects a reality.”

“We are most appreciative of this expression of support from the Bronx Borough’s President’s Office,” said BronxWorks Executive Director Eileen Torres. “This as well as previous grants have enabled us to implement many important renovations at our BronxWorks McLaughlin Community Center, which is an anchor for surrounding communities and the borough in general.”

“Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. understands the importance of empowering our young people and as a result has help support the expansion and renovation of our social recreation and program areas along with supporting the renovation of our aquatic center one of a precious few in this great county of the Bronx,” said Daniel Quintero, Executive Director for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club.

“Thousands of clients a day depend on our meals to help them keep their strength, take their medicines and ultimately stay healthier,” said Karen Pearl, President & CEO of God’s Love We Deliver. “Safe and timely delivery of meals depends on our fleet of refrigerated vans that literally drive thousands of miles in wind, rain, heat and snow each year. This new van is imperative to our mission of delivering medically tailored meals to people who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves in the Bronx. The Borough President’s compassion and commitment are recognized and valued. As we celebrate our 33rd year of service and 19 million meals and counting, we are truly humbled and overwhelmed by his continued support.”

“The funds earmarked by the Bronx Borough President’s Office for Part of the Solution’s capital project will help to ensure that hundreds more Bronxites receive invaluable job training skills for today’s jobs and potentially thousands more are able to utilize POTS’ suite of stabilizing services,” said Christopher Bean, Executive Director for Part of the Solution, Inc. (POTS). “All at POTS are incredibly grateful to the Borough President’s office for their incredible support of POTS and its expansion. We are proud to partner with Bronx Borough President Diaz on realizing a shared vision of a strong and vibrant Bronx community.”

“Rocking the Boat just bought our building in May and I’m very proud that our first official act as the building’s owner is to improve its environmental efficiency, which would have been impossible without the tremendous support of the Bronx Borough President,” said Jaye Pockriss Development Director for Rocking the Boat, Inc. “Not only will this project extend the life of the structure and save energy and money, it will serve as a prominent example of the priority the Bronx places on green building and reducing environmental impact.”

“URI is grateful for President Diaz’s generous support,” said Nathaniel  Fields, President and CEO of Urban Resource Institute. “Having reliable transportation available to the residents of our domestic violence shelters means one less obstacles for them as they heal and rebuild their lives.”
