“Today, I join the world to mourn the passing of Lewis Katz. He was an advisor and a mentor, and someone who truly believed in the future of our borough. Though known for his wealth, the size of his wallet paled in comparison to the size of his heart.

“He was a major supporter of his alma mater, Temple University, where his support helps to give young people a chance for a great education. He was active in youth charities in his hometown of Camden, and served as a mentor to many youth throughout the region. His charitable activities were worthy of great admiration, but Lewis Katz did not do these things for recognition—he did them because he cared.

“Lewis Katz was a great man, and a great friend to myself and to my family. He will be deeply missed, and I wish his family and friends peace in their time of need,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
