  • Summer Sizzles in the Bronx with the 3rd Annual SalsaFest!

Festival will include free community events
Summer Music Series will feature all-star performances

The Bronx is sizzling in the month of August with the 3rd Annual Bronx SalsaFest!

The Bronx is where Salsa was cultivated into the music and dance phenomenon that has taken the world by storm.  In celebration of that heritage SalsaFest, a month-long festival that brings together some of the best salseros, dancing in the streets of the borough and on the sands of Orchard Beach, has arrived once again.

Presented jointly by the Office of Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and the Bronx Tourism Council, SalsaFest begins on August 2nd with a dance party and screening of the documentary Fania All Stars Live in Africa, and will continue through to August 25th with the Orchard Beach Summer Concert Series and a free tribute concert in memory of the late Ibrahim González at Woodlawn Cemetery’s Woolworth Chapel, produced by The Woodlawn Conservancy.

Other activities will include concerts, dance lessons, street fairs, book readings and panel discussions throughout the borough.

“Bronxites come out and represent El Condado de la Salsa in a big way every August, when we celebrate the incredible music, dance and culture of Salsa with events and celebrations throughout the borough,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.  “I personally invite everyone to join me at any of the more than a dozen events happening all over The Bronx!”

“We invite Salseros and Salseras from all over the world to come and celebrate with us,” said Olga Luz Tirado, Executive Director of the Bronx Tourism Council. “Visitors should come out and enjoy experiencing authentic Salsa music and dance in the borough where it all began.”

SalsaFest partners include NYC & Company, Billy’s Sports Bar & Lounge, WPAT 93.1 FM/WSKQ 97.9 FM, The Van Cortlandt Park Conservancy, the Westchester Business Improvement District, Wave Hill, WHEDco’s Bronx Music Heritage Center, the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts and the Woodlawn Conservancy.
