RE: The Tragic Murder of Evelyn Shapiro

"I join all Bronxites in offering the family of Evelyn Shapiro our sympathies in their hour of need. Ms. Shapiro, who was 88 years old, was a well-known pillar of her community–a woman who cared for the well-being of the neighborhood and had spent the better part of her live at the Pelham Parkway Houses. That she met so violent an end is disgusting, and my office is prepared to assist the police department in any way we can to find her murderer.

“I call on anyone with information about this murder to come forward, so that we can put this savage behind bars. Anyone who could so brutally take the life of an 88-year-old woman is a monster, has no place in our society, and the sooner they are off of our streets the better.

“Once again, on behalf of all 1.4 million Bronxites, I offer my condolences to the Shapiro family, and I pray for the swift capture of her killer," said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
