RE: Repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”

“I congratulate President Obama for officially repealing the military’s ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy, making it possible for our LGBT community to serve openly and proudly in the United States Armed Forces. I also congratulate those gay and lesbian soldiers, including my niece, who may now return to the military without the looming fear of punishment for simply being who they are. The LGBT community deserves the same opportunity to serve their country as anyone else, and this historic action has made that possible,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

In October 2010, Borough President Diaz issued a letter to President Obama urging the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
