  • Borough President Diaz Congratulates Kemba Walker and the UConn Huskies on their National Championship

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., on behalf of all 1.4 million Bronxites, congratulates Soundview’s own Kemba Walker and the entire UConn Huskies men’s basketball team on their NCAA championship.

“Basketball fans are always excited for March Madness, but here in the Bronx it was even more exciting to see one of our own, Kemba Walker, leading his team to victory and bringing a championship to his home borough,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

As a member of the State Assembly, Borough President Diaz sponsored a number of major basketball tournaments in his district, including the Watson Avenue Classic, in which Walker honed his skills on the court and developed into the player he has become today.

“I have known Kemba Walker for many years, and all through that time I knew that he would make the Bronx proud. Kemba has always been a smart, talented young man who exemplifies the best of our borough, both on and off the court. And we are not only proud that he has reached the greatest heights in college basketball, but that he will also bring home a college degree in May,” said Borough President Diaz. “Kemba is a true role model for Bronx youth, and we all look forward to watching him in the NBA.”
