  • Borough President Diaz Hosted Annual Interfaith Ceremony to Celebrate the Legacy Of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., joined by elected officials, community and civic leaders, honored the legacy and memory of the great civil rights leader Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during an interfaith service at Trinity Baptist Church. Referring to this year’s national theme, “Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day on…Not a Day Off,” Diaz Jr. talked about the importance of keeping the ideas of Dr. King alive.

“We should never forget the legacy, leadership and selfless spirit of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. After tragedies like the one we just experienced in Arizona, it is our obligation to fulfill his vision and adhere to his message that people of all races, religions and classes should live in peace and join in a spirit of togetherness. As he always said, non-violence should be the answer to our issues,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

Among the elected officials attending the ceremony were Congressman Eliot Engel, Senator Charles Schumer, State Comptroller Thomas Di Napoli, and Assembly members Carl Heastie and Vanessa Gibson, among others. Community leaders and dozens of residents also joined Borough President Diaz in the celebration.
