  • Borough President Diaz Calls on DOE to Address Concerns at P.S. 51

In a letter to Chancellor Dennis Walcott sent today, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. has called on the Department of Education to address the specific concerns of parents, students and staff concerning both the closure of the former site of P.S. 51/Bronx New School and the future of the school at its future location.

“Rather than provide straightforward answers to a school community that is rightfully concerned about its future, the Department of Education has instead put forward few specifics, if any, about the future of the Bronx New School. This lack of clarity is unacceptable, especially since the first day of school is just weeks away,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

The letter calls on the Department of Education to answer the specific concerns of the Bronx New School community, in regards to both the medical issues surrounding the discovery of the toxic chemical TCE at the schools former site as well as the future of the school moving forward.
